Thank you for enquiring about having a baptism service for your child(ren).

At Holy Trinity we have the pleasure of baptising many adults and children each year and we look forward to you and your family becoming part of our family.

Your child is precious to you and precious to God. You want the very best for them, and so does God. You want them to make right choices in life, for themselves and for others.
A christening is just the beginning of this and so much more. Over the years to come, it’s a journey you’ll share together with your child by:

Being there for your child to talk to about the bigger questions of life – questions about hope, faith and love.

Praying for your child through the ups and downs of their faith journey.

Showing them practically how to make those good choices in life.

Helping them to learn more about their Christian faith, through their church and in other ways.

So it’s a commitment to start as you mean to go on*

At Holy Trinity we hold baptism services on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month at 1.30pm. We shall agree a date to hold your service with you beforehand. Services last approximately 45 minutes.

Baptism services are very popular at Holy Trinity so there may be two families at each service having children baptised together.

Whilst you do not have to be a regular church goer to have a baptism service in your local parish church we will invite you to attend church before a baptism service, this is a good opportunity to meet others who may be having their child baptised or who have already had a baptism services, get to know us a bit more and the significance of having a child baptised. We also hold regular playgroups on Tuesday and Friday mornings for preschool age children and this is also a good way to meet other parents/carers.

Once your service is booked in you can begin to plan for any celebration you may be having after the service. Baptisms are a wonderful opportunity for family and friends to celebrate together.

You will need to choose your Godparents, there should be a minimum of two Godparents, but you may choose more, and preferably at least one male and one female.

The role of a Godparent in a baptism service is a significant part of the service and the child’s life as they grow. They will be making promises in front of God and committing to be an active part of your child’s life. For further information on the role of a Godparent you may wish to send them this link https://www.churchofengland.org/life-events/christenings/guide-godparents

The vicar will be in touch with you the week before your service is due to be held. They will arrange to visit you at home to talk through the service, what is involved, take some details for the baptism register and confirm who the Godparent’s will be. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions or discuss any special arrangements you may require.
